How I’m Curing My Adult Acne | My Skincare Routine and Products

I get requests to upload videos about my skin care routine a lot! I’ve been getting these requests for over a year now, and I’ve been putting it off because I was testing out different products and waiting to see long term results. I didn’t want to recommend something to you guys and regret it later on. So here it is! The full list of everything I have been using to treat my adult acne! It’s a short list, but the products are quite effective. My skin is finally clearing up, looking brighter, healthier, and more fresh, and I’m so happy about it!

p.s. Thanks for all the advice in the comments and to my inbox, on eating better and drinking more water, I definitely agree! I have been battling acne for a long time, and I consider myself to be quite healthy. I drink lots of water and am obsessed with veggies! I believe that there can be other factors besides what we are eating, including stress levels and life situations that can cause a breakdown in your immune system and health, causing breakouts. Not to mention genetics! My mom has always had acne and still battles adult acne to this day. But besides genetics, the past three years has been extemely stressful, I’m pretty sure that’s where a lot of my breakouts came from. I’ve moved over 4 times in the past three years (including two different states), and have been self-employed for over 4 years. That kind of stress tends to have a big impact on your health and appearance.

Also, this video isn’t really about “How To Maintain Clear Healthy Skin,” if that was the case, I would definitely include how important it is to be healthy in your everyday lifestyle, like always! But my requests were to show what products I use to reduce the amount of acne that I currently have on my skin, which is why the video is so product focused. (The only time I will ever make a “How To Have Clear Healthy Skin” video is if I was able to maintain my clear healthy skin for more than a year, which I haven’t been able to do since I was 13!) Of course, 100% natural products are what I want to use on my skin. I’ve tried many forms of 100% natural products on my skin and most haven’t worked for me. Rather than damage my skin any more, and with much insistence from my worried mom (lol… you know how it is…), I decided to just go for the next best thing, Naturally “Derived”.

That’s why my New Year’s Resolution this year was to “Have Fun!” I’m trying to find a healthy balance between work and play, (instead of all work and no play which has caused me a lot of stress). That way, once my skin clears up, I’ll be able to give 100% natural face care products another go. I just don’t want to create damage on top of damage that could be irreversible. Also, I need the time to get settled into a routine first before venturing out again. But my life goals are, of course, to live a balanced, happy, healthy, and natural lifestyle, so I will do what it takes to get there! Sometimes we just hit a little road block and need to hit rewind for a second to re-group.

So anyway, I hope the video helps guys!

xoxo Whit

I have the same exact skin and I thought I was listening to myself at the beginning of the video. I've tried everything that you mentioned (Neutrogena being the WORST!) and it is so hard having our type skin. Right now I'm using Murad's Acne System and at this point my skin is in a good place. I want to try Clarins Gentle Cleanser once I'm done with my Murad. I got a sample of it from Sephora a while back and my skin was so pretty! I have also been using a Clarisonic since November and love it.

Thanks for sharing what works for you. After a while, products are not as effective on my skin and I have to switch. I will definitely keep this in the back of my mind to try in the future.

I haven't viewed the video just yet but I want to say its great of you to take the time to make a video like this. I used to struggle a lot with acne from 18 to my late 20's. I had light acne in my teens but it got worst when I graduated high school. Long story short I found that less is more with me and my face cleared up. I still get the occasional pimple here and there but it's nothing like it used to be. For the last 5 years I've used Aubrey Organic Vegecol face cleanser and to moisturize my face I currently use 100% pure cocoa butter. The brand name of the coca butter is Cococare and the only ingredient is cocoa butter, nothing else.

And diet also plays a big part. If I don't get enough water or if I start drinking too much coffee it show on my skin.

Thanks again!!

I've struggled with the same problem once I hit puberty and I'm now 28 years old and still suffer adult acne! I've found that less works better for me. When i don't stress about my skin and just use a simple cleanser without harsh chemicals my face tends to clear up more. People always say you should drink lots of water and eat right, I've done all that and still have acne so I think it's comes down simply to hormones! I've tried Evening Primrose Oil as I've read that it regulates hormones. I'm not sure how effective it was for my acne but it definitely reduced my PMS symptoms and my skin was glowing a bit more.

If you discover a miracle product, please let us know! Till then let's just encourage each other knowing that we're not alone in the pimpledom, lol!

Hi,

I have watched your videos on youtube and I have learned so many helpful tips. I really appreciate you and your channel. So, I hope my tip today will help you. I have found lemon juice to be a miracle cure for my skin. I have combination skin, but I am pretty confident it will work for someone with oily skin too. I just would not recommend it for dry skin. On to the tip…

1. I start by steaming my face. I have a Conair face steamer. It was inexpensive, maybe $25. You can also use a hot rag. The purpose is to open your pores. Doing this for 5-10 minutes should be enough.
2. Then, I use juice from a fresh lemon. If I have a break out, I use it undiluted on a cotton ball and make sure I spread it all over my face, jaw and neck. Yes, it stings. Yes, you will get used to it shortly and it won't burn much. But the results, are worth it. I leave it on 10-15 minutes.
3. Next, use an apricot scrub all over you face. I use the Target Up brand.
4. Lastly, put you favorite non-pore clogging moisturizer on.

Try this every other day until your face clears. You should notice a dramatic difference within a week. Not only will you acne be gone, but the scars will fade as well. Then you have to experiment with diluting the lemon juice with water (very important) and deciding how many times per week you need to do it to maintain your clear skin. The lemon juice can be drying so don't do it everyday unless it is very diluted (maybe 5 parts water to 1 part lemon). Everyone is different so find what works for you. Also, you can get a metal blemish extractor to get out clogged pores faster, but they will come out on their own pretty quickly over time.

I hope this helps!

I feel like there should be a natural solution that is CHEAPER! Have you ever tried to use supplements (burdock root, MSM poweder) or aloe vera gel for a topical solution, etc.?

I think natural products are more beneficial than wasting money in chemical products. I have sensitive, dry, but acne and rash prone skin and royal jelly moisturizer has really helped with all my skin issues. It is a honey bee secretion that is used to nourish larvae and the adult queen bees. Royal jelly contains complex B vitamins, amino acids, fatty acids, minerals, enzymes, natural antibiotic properties, and antibacterial properties.

We also provide affordable high quality skincare products here at http://www.cocokind.com! We are 100% organic and natural and our products will not clog your pores because they are non-comedogenic 🙂 We think you might be interested!
