Curl Crush on NYC!

Hey Guys!

Just winding down from my trip to New York yesterday, and oh man… it was fun, lol!

I decided super last minute to attend the Curl Crush event organized by the wonderful Curly Girl Collective team! And when I say “super last minute” I mean at 9pm the night before… oh and did I mention I live in Massachusetts!? So around 12am, my wonderful hubby Filipe and I hopped in our car, like the ninja-bosses we are, and took the 4-hour drive to the city, where our old high school friend, Justin, graciously took us in for the night.

So 3-hours later we’re out and about exploring the lively city of New York, with Justin as our tour guide!

Unfortunately, it was a rainy day yesterday… I started out with fresh makeup and a full head of perfectly placed, mini-twisted spiral curls for the event! But due to my lack of an umbrella, hoodie, old-grandma weird plastic cap…thingy… my makeup was no longer, and curls quickly vanished, only to be replaced by shribbly, soggy, mini twists… lol… oh well, I tried!

But regardless, it was so much fun walking through Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Soho; checking outs shops and stopping for a bite to eat in random places!

So the Curl Crush event was a lot of fun; there was such a great turnout! I really haven’t gone to many meet-ups, (they’re usually far away, and I’m a home-body to be honest…) but I was interested in this one in-particular because they had something planned that I had never heard of before! A “Speed-Dating” for Natural Hair, lol! Basically individuals had one minute to speak with each other, one-on-one, about natural hair care, tips, advice… really anything! (I think Chubs and Filipe happened to make their way into one of my conversations, lol!) And once the minute was over, they yelled “switch” and you would move on to the next person!

It was an awesome way for people to meet each other. Sometimes at big events, it can be hard to meet new people. It’s more comfortable to hang with the people you already know, and you can find yourself in the same corner with your group of friends for the entire night. So I thought this was a great way to break up those groups and get everyone out of their comfort-zone, and mingling and interacting with new people!

All-in-all, I had a great experience! And it was soooooo much fun meeting all of you in person! You guys are so sweet and so friggin’ funny! Although we communicate over the internet, I still feel like I know you guys, so it’s definitely not weird to come up and say hi; I love meeting you all!

There were so many familiar faces as well! Bloggers, vloggers, company owners, salon owners… it was quite the event! So if you missed it this time, definitely make sure to catch the next Curly Girl Collective event. I can tell these women take a lot of time and put a lot of effort into what they do, so I’m sure the next one wil be just as great, if not better!

Everyone looked fabulous!! I think I might try to catch it next time around, looks and sounds like fun.

OMgosh! Could there have possibly been more beautiful natural hair in one place at one time??? Just plain gorgeousness in every picture. Thanks for sharing!

That looked so fun and your hair looked great as usuall. All I wanted to do was touch their hair, it looked so soft. I live in Chicago, I would like to do something like that hear, there are so many naturals here.
